CILIOSPINAL REFLEX

Watch a subject’s pupils as you gently move the hairs on the back of her neck. What happens to the size of the pupils? What happens to the subject’s pupils if you pinch the back of her neck?

BLINKING REFLEX

Ask someone to sit quietly in a chair. Without warning, but with care not to touch the eyes, wave your hand in front of his face. What happens? Can he willfully control this reflex and not blink?

Have your subject hold a sheet of cardboard about as long as his head perpendicular to the center of his face. The purpose of the cardboard (which should not be known to the subject) is to prevent the air you blow into one eye from reaching the other eye.

With cardboard barrier in place, blow into one eye. Does the eye you blow into blink? Does the other eye blink, too? Can the subject willfully control this reflex and not blink when you blow into one of his eyes?
